You do not need a referral for some of our services, however, you may have found us via a referral. We are here to support you with your liver and gastrointestinal health and are happy to start with an initial consultation if you have concerns about your liver or gut health or if you do not have a referral yet.
When will I need a referral?
You will need a referral at the time of your consultation to receive a Medicare rebate. A referral also helps us communicate your health needs and outcomes with your primary care clinicians and supporting specialty teams.
Is there a Medicare rebate for consultations?
A partial Medicare rebate will be paid for patients with a valid referral. Please ask our staff about any gap payments prior to your consultation.
Do you accept Private Health Insurance?
Private Health Insurance can be used for inpatient admissions and for day procedures. Outpatient consultations are billed privately, though there will be a partial Medicare rebate for patients with a valid referral. Please ask our staff about any gap payments prior to your consultation.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations must be made 24 hours before a consultation. Cancellations other than extenuating reasons may attract a 50% fee. This will be at the discretion of the treatment provider.

What is a colonoscopy?
A colonoscopy is a medical procedure used to examine the inside of the colon, also known as the large intestine or bowel. A colonoscopy is primarily used to identify and diagnose various gastrointestinal conditions and can also allow certain treatments and interventions to be performed, such as polypectomy and biopsies.
What is a gastroscopy (upper endoscopy)?
A gastroscopy, also known as an esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) or upper endoscopy, is a medical procedure used to examine the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract. A gastroscopy can identify various upper GI conditions, such as gastritis, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcers, esophagitis, and tumours, perform biopsies, remove polyps and other treatments.
What is an endoscopy?
An endoscopy is a medical procedure that involves the use of a flexible tube with a light and camera at its tip, called an endoscope, to visualise and examine the interior of various parts of the body. The specific type of endoscopy is named according to the area of the body being examined, for example, gastroscopy, colonoscopy or laparoscopy.
What is a FibroScan®?
A FibroScan® is a liver scanning device used to assess liver steatosis (liver fat) and fibrosis (liver damage or scarring) and provides additional information that cannot be obtained from regular liver imaging, like an ultrasound.

Ashley is an experienced consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist who provides comprehensive care across all areas of Gastroenterology including the evaluation and management of advanced liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease (crohns and ulcerative colitis), irritable bowel syndrome, bowel cancer screening, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GORD).

Michael is a Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist who manages a range of Gastroenterological issues, including liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and irritable bowel syndrome. Michael performs Gastroscopies and Colonoscopies, including polypectomy and Fibroscan. Michael holds a public consultant appointment at Monash Health, where he leads the metabolic fatty liver disease clinic. He also leads several international liver clinical trials.

Directions
Masada Private Hospital is located on Balaclava Road between Hotham Street and Orrong Road. If you are travelling along Carlisle Street, you will notice that the street becomes Balaclava Road once you cross Hotham Street.
Catch a train and/or tram
Catch the Sandringham Line to Balaclava Station. From here, you can catch either the number 3 or 16 tram going away from the city. Get off at stop 41, and cross Alexandra Street, where you will find Masada Private Hospital located 100m away to the left.
